summertime blooms

with no rain in sight my sprinkler had been working overtime

this heatwave had made working in the garden difficult

and the weeds have taken over

i did get a chance to snap a few shots of some of the summer blooms

(above, white echinacea, several texture layers, bokeh, and text)

photo magic

just a "heads up"

marie otero had a new on-line class

starting june 24

Week 1 - Photo Editing
We will cover a number of techniques for making your photos jump off the page and start with making sure they are straight, using some creative cropping, discussing rule of thirds, and how to "eyeball" a good look.

We will work with adjustment layers and some simple layer masking.

Week 2 - Fab Faces and Glamour Glow
Learn how to make your faces rock with the use of the Healing Brush and other techniques to make your up close and personal pictures look like the professionals do them.
We will work with layers, blending modes and filters in this weeks projects.

Week 3 - Creative Effects
Let's start messing around with your less than perfect images by adding layers of texture, blur, bokeh and other fun techniques so that you can learn how to make the best of even the less successful image and make it look fabulous. We will be working with layers, selection tools and oh yes, blending modes again !

Week 4 - Blog It, Share It, Show It....
This week we will focus on how to share your images online. How to create a FAB header for your blog using your own photos or images. Create a neat sidebar thumbnail or avatar. Place images into a custom made template that you can use over and over. And let's talk about text. How and when to use it, how to customize it and Embellish it!
We will also look at watermarking and custom signatures for your images.

i have taken several classes with marie and

have learned so much

she is an excellent teacher

digital journal magic

as the final week of my marie's online class comes to an end
i had a chance to combine my newly learned lessons
with my vision circle class
it's a work in progress
it represents what i see in my future
every picture is a reminder of what i love
and the statement is what i have learned about myself
i am a self healer
through my creativity
i've always said that my art is my meditation, my therapy
and it has always been comforting to be able to express myself
thanks leanne for you guidance and marie for the tools to express it

digital journal magic

just finishing week two of my on-line class
with marie otero
WOW!!! what a lot of info
i've worked with layers
usually 4 or 5 of them
but for this class i'm using 15 to 20!!
tools i've never touch, clipping masks,
combining brushes, filters, effects, text,
creating my own patterns, learning new tips and tricks
and having fun while doing it!!
-------
above my finished project
"paris in the spring"
------
elements i used in my project
several photos taken on my trip to paris last spring
i used a different filter on each , cutout, poster edge and threshold
an old street map and an old letter i found at the antique market
clip art of a compass and postage stamp
the blossoms are from marie

for my first project
i wasn't sure what to do
i've never been one to scrapbook or journal
so i decided to use my recent photos from my visit
to my friends farm in claremont
-----

----
i used the cutout filter for the barn and horse photos
and the threshold filter for the grasses photos
and then chose a colour from the evergreens behind the barn
i found an old coffee stained postcard, a ticket and postage
the background was a combination of paper and brushes

----
i'm looking forward to week three

daylight robbery solution

catching up on my blog reading since my technical difficulties
i was visiting my friend marie and her post out and about in nyc
it is wonderful to see how my friends spend their days
and her photos are always stunning
as i got to the end of the posting
i laughed at her conversation with her DH
------
"since when did a sandwich and coffee cost that much?"
DH goes..... "well, it's new york"
i go....... " it's day light robbery"
------
i'm sure i've had this conversation with my friends
out and about in toronto
sometimes you just want a quick lunch
soup and share a sandwich or salad
with a coffee or tea
and its $30-$40
-------
well i'm here to tell you that sometimes you find a deal
or get your monies worth
even in a trendy neighbourhood
i take classes in the distillery every wednesday
and as a treat i will head over to the brick street bakery
above, left my lunch, a vegetarian with bacon!!!( i know. i know)
with a bottle water and a chocolate chip cookie for $12!
you can also get a blt for $4.50 /$5 with cheese
boxing day (turkey) $8
pulled pork $9

and of course they have all the sweets you can image

while i waited for my meal

i managed to get a few shots of some grunge with my i-phone

camera bag plastic

camera bag infrared

working in RAW

that's camera raw
i'm on week two of
on line class
(loving it!)
i don't shoot in raw
so i've never been exposed to it
or did i know that i could use my jpegs
marie has shown us the difference
and how to clean up an otherwise
disappointing photo
when i'm out taking photographs
first i take a lot and second i don't
like to think about it too much
my camera is usually set on automatic
(except when indoors or wheni have the patience)
and i work on them when i get home
what i do think about is
"that's a great shape", or
" that will make a great frame"
or cool grunge
"i can make a great overlap in ps"
or just " i like that"
so needless to say when i get home
i spend alot of time organizing and
cleaning up my favorite shots
------
above a shot from my paris trip
we where on the shady side of the
working in raw makes it so easy to
improve any photo

another before and after
the day before we went to the
cimetiere du pere-lachaise
i took a photo class with sophie pasquet
as we wondered around montmartre
it was a very hazy day
we played with my camera settings
to get some really great shots
so the next morning when we got to the
cemetery my camera was still on manual
and i took about 20 photos before i noticed
(not enough coffee)
i did try to fix them while on my trip with not much luck
and now that i know about raw......
it's a whole new world !!!
thanks marie!!

if you missed out on taking this class or
would like to sign up for the next one
space is limited
