ive been creating a ton of work since coming home from the hospital

everyday i am working on something

above my recent encaustic painting

below some jewelry  and my new product of choice powertex

it has been a busy month

with life getting somewhat back to "normal"

I've also got the creative bug!!

(must be the full moon)

 I have a ton of jewelry supplies

and when I found a container filled with chandelier crystals

I got inspired

I think they work well with the pearls and metal

a few extra crochet projects

a change purse and zebra slippers for sadie

and just a couple samples of the over 20 encaustic painting i've  done

over the past few months

happy accidents!

some days I start out with a great idea

I can see it in my head, sometimes I dream about painting

then when it comes to getting it onto the canvas it can go wrong

for some reason I was having a hard time

I just wasn't "feeling it"

after several breaks and almost giving up

I decided to give it one more chance

after layering and scraping

ironing and adding more color

more scraping and ironing

I finally liked what I was seeing

so I added a photo transfer

and after six hours of pure frustration

a beautiful painting

lesson learned

never give up

but more importantly

patience!!!!

being  inspired by patricia baldwin seggebruch  new book 

and since i already have a blow torch

i decided to try her wood glue burn technique

who new glue could look so wonderful after a few minute

(above, wood board and painter tape covered with glue, remove tape then torch

until glue bubbles and wood burns- details of the experiment)

i love the texture it created!!

and once i ran out of glue i switched back to shellac

(below, top left-metal powders mixed with shellac over wax

top right-shellac over wax, wax rolled rose and paper

bottom left - metal inks on wood first , wax and then shellac burn

today i got to spend the day at wise daughters

taking surpias encasutic class

what a wonderful day, it was so nice to finally get to meet her

and get to experience her methods of painting

one thing i rarely do is play with the iron

i love the contrast of the very smooth, marble like top against the deep texture

i love texture

after encaustic class on sunday i got excited to be creating texture again

i played around with the photographs in ps and created a some

overlays to use on other photos

before i came up with something i really liked

to rest up for the long 8 hour drive home

all my bags are packed and ready to head down to

woodstock and kingston, ny

i'm taking a 4 day workshop

at the center of photography and r & f paints

mixed minded

day 2 was a full day of wax!!

it is wonderful to watch people get excited about

learning something new

what a fun class

everyone completed several board

and did such unique work

i love how everyone made "it" there own

thanks ladies for making this a fantastic experience!!

i first photo (top left)

is of my encaustic painting from last week

in photoshop i desaturated the colour (top right)

the bottom two have photo filters on them

to see what the texture would do
i opened a photo of a tree added the b/w texture on top
and after trying on all the blending modes
i settled on exclusion


with a bit a script and a grunge frame from shadowhouse
blending modes set to darken and linear burn
and there you have it

women finding their voice

jane doe

"throughout time, the voices of women have been silenced by

gender, bias, war, poverty, racism and religious persecution
jane doe brings to life the voices of forgotten women who have

contributed to the framework of society, who carried on

traditions of their ancestors, preserved and carried on the

dreams of their generation in their hearts. i chose the name

jane doe as all of these women are unknown to us and yet they

have had impact on our lives.

i wish to honour them and to give voice to their stories.

all of these stories are true and are based on information

gathered from interviews with relatives, photos, letters and archives.

my hope is that this exhibit will give others the courage to

tell their stories"~heather gentleman
