encaustic class

it's been 5 weeks since my last encaustic class

(i took this last semester off )

once a month heather has a 6 hour sunday class

i gives you lots of time to get something finished

(or close to it) after choosing the rusted lock and key

heather suggest i work with beeswax

i used 4 boards, 2 upside down

and different thickness

here i add a piece of lace i found at the flea market

one of my photos some coffee and sesame seeds to add some texture

and some handmade paper to line the canvas

old paper for the background and oil paint to highlight the texture

street grunge project

lately, as the snow has melted

it has revealed some interesting grunge

which i love

i'm always looking for texture to photograph

they add wonderful interest to any photo

even a simple tree

one thing i always notice is telephone poles

this one caught my eye

i played with the hue/saturation and cropped it

after trying it "on" several photos and

playing with all the different blending modes

i used the "difference" for the above tree

and "vivid light" for the photo below

where layers count

sometimes less is more

good golly miss molly

it will three months since i brought little miss molly home

and has become a wonderful part of our family

she has made herself right at home

snow bonus

the one good thing that came out of the last snow fall

was some of the cool photos

(above, you know spring is on it's way when the geese come home)

as i was walking past one of the many driveway i notice how the

snow landed in the cracks it looked like cracks in marble

so i took a shot

when it got home i notice that the snow had made a nice oval frame

so i played a bit in ps

changed it to black and white and added it to several photos

here i used the color burn blending mode this one i used overlay

no surprise

this morning i woke to a nice dusting of snow

no surprise, i do live in canada

(i've seen snow in april)

on my morning walk i manage to take several photos

it was walking back home when it got nasty

it's now afternoon and it hasn't stopped

looks like a foot so far

back to dreaming of spring and time in the garden

photoshop fun

with temperatures cooling back down

i decided to stay in and keep warm

which gave me time to play with some of my

canada blooms photos

i added six layers

4 textures from shadowhouse

a letter i found at the old paper show

and a clipping mask

until i was happy with the results

signs of spring

a sure sign of spring!!

the dairy queen open this week

just in time for the nice weather

12c yesterday (54f)

i'll enjoy it while i can

march's weather can turn on a dime

so i haven't started cleaning out the garden just yet

i'll wait for april
