10 golden rules

i love the blog world
there are so many interesting things out there
i aways find something cool at
denise has inspired me so much
i dug out my toy camera when i first found her blog
and since have added to my collection
i recently took my super sampler to the ex
lots of moving things which is great for this camera
i also found this great site on her blog
there 10 golden rules
1. Take your camera everywhere you go
2.Use it any time – day and night
3. Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it
4. Try the shot from the hip
5. Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible
6. "Don’t Think" (William Firebrace)
7. Be fast
8. You don’t have to know beforehand what you’ve captured on film
9. Afterwards neither
10. Don’t worry about any rules
this weekend i will bring out my new fisheye
and my holga
i'll let you know what i come up with

wheels

i don't know what it is about old cars that i like so much
the curves, the colours, all that chrome?
i've always been interested
maybe because my dad worked in a car factory for 32 years
once a year
it's held on the old dodge estate north of detroit
it's a great show
there are a lot of rare and unusual cars
my favorite the 1936 stout scarab

recycle

mixed media monday's topic this week is recycle
i think artists are the best example of this
i know whenever i'm out, anywhere,
i'm always looking at things differently
nothing gets thrown out and all my friend
are trained to save "stuff" for me
i have one room filled with all kinds of things
from paper, maps, books, metal found objects,
wood, old material, lace, buttons
game pieces and boards, all kinds of "bits and pieces"

i recently started an etsy site featuring some of my jewelry
my first class was with richard salley
i had fun learning from him and really enjoyed his class
it's a great use for all your "junk drawer" stuff!
sometimes when i'm blocked go through
my stack of magazine pages
i usually save the ones with lots of texture or contrast
i just sit and tear the pages into strips and
then make backgrounds mixed with masking tape
and other types of paper
afterwards you can add paint,
stamp on images, whatever you like

a work in progress

photo journal

every six weeks my photo journal group hosted by
catherine anderson has a new challenge
our latest
"hands"
catherine always does something interesting with the cover
her photo splits up the middle and opens to reveals another wonderful photo
what a great job chatherine!
making 32 journals is a lot of work
thank you!

my photo is of my neighbour clarence parsons
he's 91 and loves to work on his lino cuts
and he hand paints his prints
a true inspiration!

announcement

thanks to some encouragement and help from my friends
i've started an etsy shop
i was a little nervous and must admit a little scared
it's another part of my evolution
to put "it" out there
stop by and let me know what you think?
i will be adding more of my "wares" soon

long live the king

when i was a little girl i loved to watch elvis movies
i think i've seen every one 50 times! really!
i told my mum "i'm going to vegas to marry elvis"
i was never a fanatic , just had a huge crush!
i started pencil sketching in grade school
mostly houses and scenery
i started portraits in high school and
once i left collage i wondered into other mediums
once in a while i would pick up my pencils and try "my hand"
i found this sketch in my portfolio case hidden away
it's at least 15 years old
and one of my favorites,
it captures him before the fame, before the army and
before his innocence was lost

and of course, i had to play a little in ps
trying on different backgrounds and blending modes
i still listen to elvis and love his christmas songs the best
i did get married in vegas to a wonderful man
and elvis showed up and sang
"love me tender", "i can't help falling in love"
and "viva las vegas"!
he was wearing his gold lame jacket

BINGO!

today's the day
the candian nation exhibition is officially open!
i've been playing with my old photos and wanted
to post this bingo card for a while
thanks to my friend marie
i used her "tricks" to fine tune this project
i've had fun experimenting with all the tool and techniques
so many variations, i love photoshop
with a click of a button you can instantly see what you are thinking
i remember the old "cut and paste" days
going through tons of photocopies and markers
and hours of getting stuff wrong
i was hard at first -- learning photoshop
but now , with some help from my friends and a little practice,
i think i've finally turned the corner and feel more confident
i know that i've only scratch the surface but i have a better
understanding of what i can do and what can be done!
and i'm not as scared!!!!
posted for mixed media monday

the count down begins!

well, it's that time of year again
i just heard the commercial
lets go to the ex!
any one who has lived in toronto knows what i mean
it's bitter sweet
3 fun filled weeks of midway rides, games,
arts and crafts, shopping, concerts, the air show
the food building!!!!!
remember the free samples
the alpine
and my favorite
tiny tom donuts!
it's bitter sweet because you know that it signifies
the end of the summer!
what the #@*$ happened to summer?
pardon my french
i will spend a day wondering, eating and taking pictures
can't wait!

i've posted something simple
the tide coming into kingsville, ontario
water has always been very soothing to me
i've always lived near water and love the sound,
the smell and everything else it brings

feeling under the weather since i returned home from my long weekend visit with my sister
i've been playing around with some of my photos taken during my stay on lake erie
i don't know why i like this one, maybe its all the cold meds ,
or the ttv i found while looking through flickr
either way, i like it, something very calming about the whole thing
so i decided to use some of the photos in my new header
